Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great option for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it while you're at work or going to school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. And, if you need to change the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best automatic vacuum robot vacuum mop cleaner robot for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning robot mop and vacuum schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the competitors. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot cleaner that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's a noisy unit that could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient however, it's more expensive and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house based on how dirty those areas are.

If you have a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your home must be cleaned by using the app or voice control. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have number of furniture. Also, a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuums with mop vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might think from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to create the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app also grants access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. And you can create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, however it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we have tested. It also has an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
