1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can trigger spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. However, the code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult as there are two different connector pins and they perform different functions but the best method of testing it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms if the sensor is at full operation. Examine for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a significant drop in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs. Three were soaked with gazoline and the fourth one was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when i turn the engine on without sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one remains closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I get 0ohm. So i assume the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car can start when the G28 is not plugged in and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in however it has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've ruled everything else out. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor.
