How to Replace an replacement audi key cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located at the edge of transmission, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 through the grey wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate the possibility of a chain stretch or jumpy chain link in the upper chain. However the code will not appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test because there are different connector pins, and each one has different functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read about 1000 ohms when the sensor is at full operation. Examine for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, I experienced an abrupt drop in power like the engine is running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing at all. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs. Three were drenched with gazoline the fourth was dry. I put tissue over each hole in the injector and when i turn the engine on without sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays closed. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I'm assuming the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The car is able to start if the G28 is disconnected and is running fine when it is plugged in however it has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I don't know what to do. I believe that I've eliminated everything else. I'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find a spare in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is easy to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines have an ECU that needs to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions about timing of the fuel injector, for example. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If either of these goes bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner which can lead to engine shutdown.

The signs of a failing G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox the gears are shifting faster than normal, and/or a misfire when you are in gear. If you are experiencing any of these issues it is likely your sensor is deteriorating and needs replacing. They are cheap and easy-to-find especially if they're a Bosch unit like ours. Alternatively, the GM version of this unit is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a myriad of issues in your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission of your audi Replacement key fob, as it transmits information to the ECU on how fast or slowly the engine of the car is spinning. If this sensor fails, it could affect the performance of the transmission as well as the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU then processes this signal to control fuel, timig and boost, and also sends it on to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. Additionally, you can verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12.
