woman-showing-the-car-keys-2022-12-16-22-09-32-utc-min-scaled.jpgHow to Replace an Audi Key Replacement Cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Hyundai.jpgCharles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace audi key the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a message to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor Near By transmits signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and the position of the camshaft, to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will throw an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. However, the code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test since there are several pins on the connector and each one has different functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is operational, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. Look for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a massive drop in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, three were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. When i crank the engine without sparks i put tissue on the top of each of the injector holes and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline leap out, however the 4th stay shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. i get zero ohm. I assume that the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car key cover audi can start when the G28 is disconnected and it runs perfectly when it is connected however it is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of that is -49c even after unplugging it. Also i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've eliminated everything else. I'm worried that i might have missed something. Please let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is the same as the G4 and both function in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a salvage yard or from a parts store. Test them out to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that has to know the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding fuel injector timing etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If either of these goes bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner which can cause the engine to shut down.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox or a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire while in the gear. It is probable that the sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you notice any of these signs. The good news is they are very affordable and easily accessible, especially when you're looking at the Bosch sensor, which is what we have. Alternately, GM's version this component is an option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be a cause for many issues with your car. It is an important part of the transmission of your replacement audi key, as it transmits information to the ECU regarding how fast or slow the engine is turning. This sensor can cause the transmission to malfunction and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It transmits signals via a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to control fuel and boost, and also to timigrate. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. It should show around 1000 ohms of resistance between those two pins. This part is common across the audi replacement key 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 DU You may also find good ones in wrecking yards.
