How to Replace an audi car key replacement G28 Engine Speed Sensor
In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located near the transmission's edge just above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, just above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.
The sensor serves as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can start spark and injectors according to the situation.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will show a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and could indicate the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper timing chain. However the code will not appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
It is a little tricky to test since there are various pins on the connector and each has its own functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read about 1000 ohms when the sensor is at full operation. If you're experiencing issues with this sensor, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll i had massive power loss like the engine is running out of gas or the injectors are not firing anymore. I took out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was unclean. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole, and when I start the engine without sparks, the three that have gazoline pop right out. The fourth one remains closed. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is elsewhere.
I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car is able to start if the G28 is unplugged and is running fine when it is connected but it still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when unplugged, still shows temperatures of -49c. Also i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.
I'm not certain what to do, but i feel i have pretty much ruled out everything else. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. Let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or at a parts store. It is easy to test them - just switch your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing up). They should be infinite ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines must know the position and speed the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of fuel injectors, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you encounter a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could cause the engine shutting down.
A malfunctioning G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox and a gearbox which shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire in the gear. If you are experiencing any of these issues it is likely your sensor is failing and needs replacing. The good thing is that they are very cheap and easy to find, especially if you're looking at an Bosch unit like ours. You can also choose the GM version of this component is also a good choice.
5. Tachometer
A faulty engine speed sensor could be the reason behind a slew of issues in your car. It's an essential component of the transmission in your Audi Q7 Replacement key because it relays information to the ECU regarding how fast or slowly the car key replacement audi's engine is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to malfunction and other components in the car to be affected.
The G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU utilizes this signal to regulate fuel and boost, and also timig. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should see the resistance to be around 1000 ohms between these two points. This is a common feature across the audi tt key replacement 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 Du You may also find some good ones in wrecking yards.
