We contacted Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect, and founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the best one. They considered storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency, among other factors.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

As its name suggests, GE’s Profile series is targeted at people who want to incorporate cutting-edge technology into their kitchen. This fridge is loaded with them all including a Keurig K cup coffee maker on the door to a sophisticated dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. The refrigerator is expensive, so I expected better.

This fridge is a good choice, despite the small blip. It comes with a huge freezer compartment, which is uncommon in counter-depth kenwood french door fridge freezer door refrigerators. Additionally, it holds a good amount of frozen foods compared to similar models.

It is nice if GE PYE22PYNFS could offer Precise Fill the option that is found in a few GE refrigerators that allow users to choose how many cups they want to dispense. It does have an indicator on the fridge display to show how much water you have remaining, but that's not as useful as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Designed to look like a seamless piece of your kitchen Bosch's French-door refrigerator looks seamless and is a standout. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S is a top counter-depth refrigerator that packs a lot of storage space into an extremely compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the refrigerator has a standard French-door layout with gallon-sized door bins at each door as well as two rows of shelves that capture spills and a set of sleeker drawers. The top right shelf can be folded down to give tall items more headroom. You'll also find a full width drawer for deli items and an internal water dispenser.

One of the great features of this refrigerator is that its ice maker is inside the freezer, making it easy to transfer ice into the fridge to use as needed. The freezer also features clever design features, such as sliding drawers that help you organize your items. It also has a huge bin that can accommodate plenty of frozen food items as well as an container for storing ice.

Although the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it does not necessarily enhance the overall performance of the refrigerator. In fact it took longer to defrost and chill foods in this fridge than some of the others we test. This is probably due to its larger capacity.

The other issue we have with the doors of this refrigerator. They have handles that are sunken on the front that allow shorter people to easily pull them open from the bottom, but they're still difficult for taller people to guide closed without slamming them. It would have been much better if these had front-mounted handles.

It has a capacity that is higher than average for counter-depth models and is able to cool evenly.
