The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC and also the position of the camshaft, in order to activate the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails the ECU will display a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).
It is a little tricky to test because there are various pins on the connector and each has its own functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms when the sensor is at full operation. Look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have problems with this part.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll i had a big cut in power like the engine is running out of gas or injectors are not firing at all. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs. Three were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when I turn the engine on without sparks, the three with gazoline jump right out. The fourth one remains closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found zero ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is somewhere else.
I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car is able to start when the G28 is disconnected and runs fine when it is plugged in but it still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar but the actual pressure is zero.
I'm not sure what to do, but i think i've pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. But i am afraid I might have missed something. Let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is the same as the G4 and both function in the 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or at a parts store. Testing them is easy to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They should be infinite Ohms.
