French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review

We asked Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect, and founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the right home. They weighed storage capacity and layout and energy efficiency as well as other aspects.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Like its name implies, GE’s Profile series is aimed at those who wish to integrate cutting-edge features in their kitchen. This fridge is loaded with them, from an in-the-door Keurig K-cup coffee maker to a sophisticated water dispenser. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Since this refrigerator is more, I'd expect higher quality.

This fridge is a good choice, despite the blip. It has a huge freezer compartment that is not common for counter-depth French-door fridges. It also holds a lot of frozen food items compared to other models.

The fridge has 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment offers 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is about par for a French door fridge that costs this much. It also has an adequate-sized icemaker packed into the left door, but it isn't the largest I've seen.

You can alter the shelves in each compartment to create a customized storage layout for what is the largest counter depth french door refrigerator you want to keep. The GE PYE22PYNFS's interior design is stylish, too. Its LED lighting is a nice addition and the storage bins have the third shelf, which can fold down to allow you to store large items. It also sends you notifications when the door is unlocked and when the fridge or freezer needs to be defrosted, and when the filter has to be changed.

It would be great to have GE PYE22PYNFS could offer Precise Fill which is a feature found in a few GE refrigerators that allows users to choose the number of cups they would like to dispense. It does offer a countdown on the fridge's display to show how much water you have left, but it's not as helpful as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth french door fridge with ice dispenser Door Refrigerator

Designed to look like a seamless part of your kitchen, Bosch's French-door refrigerator is a standout. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also features a veggie compartment that keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer and two compressors to preserve food. The ice maker is one of the most efficient we've ever tested and produces a pyramid-shaped ice that is low in use of water. This fridge is ideal for a single household or a kitchenette with an attractive design and top of the best food preservation.

This refrigerator was rated as the top in our Refrigerators Test for a variety of reasons. The freezer temperature remained steady at just above 0° Fahrenheit and never fluctuated by more than a fraction, this is essential to avoid freezing burn. The fridge section of the refrigerator also did well. It reached the temperature it was set within an hour and maintained that temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch is known for its high-end appliances. LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth fridge is a great option for those who require lots of space within a small frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the fridge has a standard French-door layout with gallon-sized door bins on each door, two rows of shelves for spill-capture and a set more spacious drawers. The upper right shelf can be folded down to give tall items more headroom. There's also a full-width drawer to store deli items and an internal water dispenser.

One of the nice features of this refrigerator is that its Ice maker is located in the freezer, which makes it easy to transfer the ice to the refrigerator to use as needed. The freezer is designed with thoughtful elements, for instance, sliding drawers that can help you to organize the place of your items. It also has a large container for storing frozen food and a separate bin for ice.

Another awesome feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. It allows you to control the temperature of your fridge, lighting, and more using your smartphone. It's a great way to monitor and manage your refrigerator, especially if you're away from home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat however it doesn't improve the efficiency of the fridge. The refrigerator took longer to defrost food and chill it than some others we tried. This is probably due to its bigger capacity.

Another issue with the doors of this refrigerator. They have sunken handles on the front, which allow smaller people to open them from the bottom, but they're not easy for taller people to pull closed without slamming the doors. It would have been more effective to have front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a good choice for those who want to combine the benefits of a French-door fridge's aesthetics with a more efficient layout. Its capacity is above average for a counter-depth model, and it cools well and has a nice layout. Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

If you're looking for an French door fridge that doesn't cost you a fortune this Frigidaire is a solid option. It has a simple design that isn't as visually striking as some of the competition, but it has enough features that make it a great option. The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of grey-bodied stainless that has a "smudge proof" finish. It does an excellent job of preventing streaks and fingerprints from appearing, even compared to shiny stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tested.
